Fusion – Combining Paper and Fibre
This workshop explores a wide range of techniques for fusing paper with textiles. Participants will experiment with various types of paper - including tissue paper, mulberry paper, newsprint, computer prints and paper pulp - and apply them to fabrics with different textures.
Through cutting, tearing, and stitching into grids, students will begin to develop their own visual language. The focus will be on creating open, translucent samples by manipulating meshes and using everyday, off-the-shelf materials, allowing students to repurpose and revitalize old or discarded artworks.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own prints and sketches to create sample pieces. These fragments will be layered and assembled into expressive collages that reflect personal associations and feelings about the living environment.
Ezster Bornemisza is a fibre artist based in Budapest, working with recycled paper, textiles, and discarded soft materials such as x-ray and integrated circuit films. Her primary techniques are printing, painting, and cutting, complemented by machine stitching. She creates large scale installations, three dimensional objects from handmade paper pulp and wall hangings.
Originally trained as a mathematician, Eszter began making art quits in the mid -1990's as a self taught artist, experimenting with the fusion of paper and cloth. More recently, she has focused on translucent wall hangings and installations created from newspaper and thread.
A long standing theme in her work is urban existence. For over two decades, she has explored city maps - distorting, layering, and altering them into complex, transparent surfaces where shadows play an active role.
Her work has been exhibited in juried and solo shows worldwide, received awards, and appears in numerous art books, journals, museums and private collections.
