Scotland

Print to Stitch

Textile Artist Deborah Campbell takes inspiration from Scotland’s coastal landscape and the birdlife that inhabits that environment. She trained in printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art and has a wide knowledge and experience of printing on fabric.

Her workshop will introduce you to exciting ways of creating your own unique printed fabrics using a Gel Plate which you will then use as collage material to create the bird of your choice. The bird will be worked separately using free motion machine and hand embroidery, then appliqued onto a printed background.

You will learn how to create depth of colour and pattern through collage and how to use stitch for mark making and drawing.

Suitable for all levels.

About Deborah Campbell

After graduating in printed textiles, I worked for many years as a freelance artist collaborating with architects and interior designers in Glasgow and London on commissions for commercial and private interiors.

I worked as a part time art & design lecturer for 7 years where I gained a lot of experience in teaching. This led me to develop workshops on a freelance basis for schools and community groups aimed at enhancing people’s experience and awareness of the arts.

I still run many workshops throughout the year working with individuals, textile groups and embroiderers guilds and get huge satisfaction from sharing ideas and introducing new methods of work.

In the last 15 years I’ve become more focused on my own art practice and taking my work in new directions while opening out to new audiences and exhibiting throughout Scotland at various art events, solo and group shows.
