Pam Hovel - Australia

Earthy Felted Vessels

During this workshop you can expect to create a variety of visually exciting 3D sculptured felted vessels each with elements of earthly beauty.

You will learn how to make a template to suit your chosen form and how to construct sturdy, well finished and unique vessels.  Students will experience a range of techniques for embellishment, drawing on inspiration from the natural world.

We will explore many elements of surface design such as ‘cracked surface’ technique, rusting, patina, natural dye and print, giving an earthy but elegant finish to each piece.

Some basic felting experience is preferred.

About Pam Hovel

Pam was introduced to the ancient craft of felt making in 2004 and has continued to develop new techniques ever since; while creating fashion garments, homewares, sculpture and wall art.

Only eco-friendly principles and natural, renewable materials are used in her work.  All dyes are derived from plants, mostly from surrounding bushland and her garden which hosts many dye plants.

Pam embraces the move to ecologically sound, slow and handmade textiles which offers her new and exciting challenges.

She has won awards for her work, exhibits widely and teaches feltmaking throughout Australia.
